I remember the experience with this one so clearly. It was just after Christmas and we were nearing the finish line with the deck but I’m not ashamed to say I was feeling a little burnt out, run down and really missing the sunshine!
My sister Face timed me whilst I was sketching this one and although I had a strong idea of what I wanted to create I suddenly plunged into an “I can’t draw!!” phase - which haunted me from time to time throughout this project. My sister being the awesome lady she is tried to convince me that I can draw and said lots of nice things to me to buoy my spirits and I wasn’t having any of it! I think I literally said something like “Stop trying to make me feel better, it’s not helping! I just need to work through this! I can’t stop I have deadlines!!!”
*sigh*
Anyway - she somehow didn’t hang up on me for being a difficult and emotionally fraught artist and started to tell me about her work and what was going on in the travel industry. I’m not sure how long I listened for whilst pushing through with the sketch of this piece, but by the time we were done chatting I zoomed out and looked at what I had done and was like “Hey! I can draw!”
Once the rough sketch was done the rest of this piece was smooth sailing. As I said there have been a few cards in this deck that I
have felt like I’ve been casting around in the dark, there have been no flashes of inspiration, just me blindly chipping away at a sketch and hoping that at some point it will start to “feel” right and scared that it might never feel right. Interestingly they were often the cards with meanings that closely represented what I was feeling. Anywho - I hope you’ve enjoyed my little story about ‘composure’ or my complete lack of ;)

This card doesn’t represent the plan that God has for your life, more the plan that comes to fruition based on your intentions and your highest good. You have been given the incredible gift of free will and therefore your thoughts, deeds, actions, and intentions are in some way going out into the universe and curating the experiences, opportunities, and energies that are flowing in and out of your life. When this card appears, you are being encouraged to move into a state of surrender, where you recognize that yes, your intentions have an impact on the creation of your life, but how those intentions unfold is not down to you, but in the hands of God. If you are trying to force a plan into action, the angelic guidance is to back down and trust in the greater good. Often when something isn’t happening for us, we’re frustrated, but that’s only because we don’t see that our “perfect plan” is unfolding. When your ideas or plans go wrong, trust that the universe has a greater plan for you. And that greater plan isn’t something that has already been chosen for you, it’s more of a culmination of all of your life’s intentions, prayers, and actions washing back toward you with opportunities and experiences.
Call on your angels to light up the path ahead. You may feel that you are facing the unknown, but know that you are always guided and protected.

Although the deck is not associated with any particular angels, i.e. the focus in on discovering your own angels and connecting with their energy, Kyle did share with me certain well-known angels in order to tune into the right energy and feel for the artworks. Uriel was mentioned briefly for the energy for this card and he was one of the first angels I ever was brave enough to paint. Amazingly Kyle found my Uriel artwork on my Etsy shop and that's how he connected with me to create the deck with him, so needless to say he holds a special place in my heart. When he was mentioned for this card I knew I wanted to create a new vision of Uriel that fitted with the aesthetic for the deck.
And the rest as they say is history.

Behind the Scenes with Angel Guide Oracle Deck Artist Jennifer Hawkyard
I created this piece before meeting with Kyle Gray and Hay House UK with the intention to set the look and feel of the deck and find an aesthetic that would work for 45 unique pieces of art. I doodled a head whilst practicing face proportions and liked it so much that I brought it into my sketching app and started turning it into something. I smushed paint around and explored a looser style than I was accustomed to, and from that came Enigma. Quite often when I start an angel piece I have a name in mind, or a concept I wish to convey, with this piece I didn’t have a name and so he was named Enigma and came with me to London to meet with the publishing team.
Thankfully the team loved this aesthetic and I returned to him regularly throughout the deck to make sure we were keeping within theme. When Kyle sent me the names of the cards ‘Blessings & Abundance’ was in the list and it just fit - so Enigma was finally assigned a name.

This card is called 'Manifestation' and it has fast become on of my favourite cards in this new deck!
As some of you know I include lots of photo textures in my images and thoroughly enjoy crafting mind-bending shapes and glimmers to embellish my artwork. Manifestation includes two images from an amazing trip to London in November. It was a surprise trip for my mum for her birthday and a celebration of a big birthday that I missed - not physically - but mentally. So we went to see the great Hans Zimmer in concert (I highly recommend) and then my fabulous sister managed to get us a beautiful suite in a very high end hotel in London which was a big surprise for my mum. In short it was a perfect few days away and as you can see from the photos above - the Christmas lights featured countless angels. You’ll see those stars in the artwork and there is also a beautiful cast iron decorative gate that is featured in the angel’s robes.

This card is called 'Strength & Guidance'.
As many of you have guessed, for this angel Kyle suggested tuning into the energy of Archangel Orion. This was my first experience with this Archangel and as someone who has always been drawn to the night sky and what lies beyond it was a memorable experience. I remember painting him well into the night and then wrapping up my evening with a yoga session and then a meditation in which I drifted off into a swirling star-scape.
I don't often "see" much when I meditate, nor am I particularly dedicated practitioner but this experience has encouraged me to do more of it!
